More Tutorials

I've been posting a few of these, i know, but they're just so smart and I like sharing.

Make a Fabric Basket Pretty! And functional! I think I'd throw some hardcore Heavyweight Fusible Interfacing on the wrong side of the fabric before, perhaps even instead of, the batting (depending on what I was planning on using the basket for). These would be super cute to make a set of for on shelves, especially in a kids room!

darling little credit card wallets These are cute. I might make this just for shits 'n' giggles and then go from there and develop a wallet pattern that has everything I like. Then maybe I'll sell wallets sewn with remnants bought from work... hmmm... i like this thought.... Depends on how long it would take and if people would be interested.

Some Links Worth Checking Out

Here are some tutorials/ideas that I think are really worth checking out. The first one is for sewers and the second for knitting/crochet.

How to Make an Inset Pocket - CraftStylish

Recycle Your Plastic Bags into a Dish Scrubber - CraftStylish

and here's a link for crafty folk who do neither of those things but would still like to do something creative!

Make a tshirt into a custom sillouette tshirt aka DIY Screen Printing. (simple!)

And this one is just kind of funny... The Entertrainer! a heart rate monitor that works with your tv, for excercise... if you slow down your TV volume drops! AHAHA i love it.

Great Weekend!

Man i had a great stint at the MCC in Steinbach on saturday. Filled up a bag from the bag sale, and it's funny because I just grabbed whatever struck my fancy because I figured I could alter anything that didn't really work... and pretty much everything worked! I wore an entire outfit today that looked high fashion and big money, and the whole ensemble cost less than $7. Whoop whoop. Scoooooore!

I also find this tshirt and the second I saw it I knew it would be a dress.

Although DD may never even know who "Animal" is... lol. Sad, but true.

Here's some of it started up:

That's the top... and then there will be a waistband and a ruffly skirt and some little sleeves. I've actually started sewing already, but didn't take pictures. (Just those two pieces halfway in the middle of being sewed together with french seams since it's for DD and we like french seams for kiddie stuff.)

And here is my retro looking Cookie jar that looks like an antique when you stand in the middle of my kitchen, but is in fact a repurposed Iced Tea container! (and it's full of cookies that I'm pretty proud of, double chocolate with decadent chips, but the recipe i used as a base was for willie vanillie oatmeal cookies! no oatmeal, just choco! whoop whoop, first successful baking adventure.)

HAHAHA ha. | :

Let's take a moment to laugh and learn, shall we?

DSC05254

Pretty! yes. I sewed this !!! I also sewed this three inches too small for my waist size. Applause, applause. However, it was a tablecloth. No huge loss. Just a little bit of damage to my ego. But barely, since I'm still proud, just bummed that I can't wear it myself.

Now on to other matters. I have this pretty fabric that is a cream and orange and brown plaid with flowers (sounds freakin awful, I know. But trust me... pretty.) It's one of those deliberatly wrinkly fabrics. I want to make my 13 month old a blouse out of it, but I can't find a pattern I like. So I'm thinking of taking apart a blouse similar to what I want and using it as a pattern. But wait... there's more. The blouse in subject is, in fact, a size 6 mos, and I want a size 12 mos. So I'm also going to be sizing up. My other thought is to just make a pattern from scratch.

Either way, wish me luck. hahahhahahaha. This could get interesting.

Good thing she's happy being naked.

Picture 007(heavens to betsy, yes. my bathtub really is as dirty as it looks. Even though I probably washed it in the 24hours previous to taking this picture. DH and my BIL who lives in the basement both a) work in dirty basementmaking construction and b) take showers in this bathroom. I'm tempted to stop cleaning it and try planting flowers in the grooves on the shelf.)

I FOUND THE CAMERA

I found the camera. IT was QUITE LITERALLY in front of my face. My monitor is on a shelf, and the camera was on the shelf as well. IN FRONT OF MY FACE. LITERALLY. Wow. Not enough sleep lately, methinks.

Love My Job

I totally love my new job. Everything about it. The fabrics (I walk around rubbing against things. I am not alone. Everyone does this.) the women (crazy as I am. sometimes worse. all walk around rubbing against the fabric.) the customers, everything. It is so much fun. It's not too hard, it's not too easy, and I learn something every day. I mean, during three days that's not that impressive, but I get the impression I will continue learning from not only my fellow staffers, but from the customers as well. And then there's the discount on the fabric and notions and whatnot. That's super. And I need more work clothes so I have a good excuse to make stuff. And to shop.

Yesterday I picked up a meter or so of polarfleece and cut it in half to make two sleeper sacs for my DD. I quickly made up one tonight, I didn't use a pattern but just winged it. I made the neckline wide so I didn't need zippers or buttons and then put ribbing in the neckline and arms. I accidentally set one sleeve in backwards and I will have to fix that tomorrow because I needed to rush so she could go to bed! I'd also like to add some decoration to it tomorrow. So I'll post a picture then! I also plan on sewing two skirts and a dress this week, at least. I only have to work on tuesday so that should work out alright. Even if I get 2/3 of those things done that's fine with me. Especially since I also am removing a zipper and sewing up a skirt for my SIL that she picked up for my neice, and my SIL's sister (lol) wants me to alter some flared jeans into straight leg jeans, but I'm not sure when that's happening. She's a hairdresser so I'll get her to cut me a rockin' bob in exchange. Plenty of photos this week, I hope! (if I can find my damn camera. I was cleaning the office/craftroom looking for it and everything. yeesh.)

Whoop Whoop, Yes I did, Yes I did...

Guess who got hired on the spot at her local fabric store utopia today? And starts tomorrow? Yes, I did. Insert the victory dance here. There are some super awesome fabrics and I am going to wind up spending half of my paycheck lol. But that's fine because I didn't need a job anyway, I just wanted this one! Now I just need more clothes. My SAHM wardrobe is not too bad from the top up because I like nice shirts. However the small matter of No Bluejean pants/skirts is a slight issue.

Quick, to the sewing machine! *batman music* I must make me some skirts!
