You like fluffy buns?

I sure do. The fluffier the better. Crusty and heavy buns are good for dipping, but give me some fluffy buns warm from the oven any day. You knew I was talking about food the whole time, right? Good, cos this aint grade five. BUNS HAHAHA.

Before the kazillion photos of Nicole cutely making these buns with me, I will share the recipe. My mom has made these buns since before the internet was invented, I don’t know where the recipe comes from, I don’t care. They’re called Two Hour Buns, as that’s how long it takes to make them. They’re stupidly easy and involve lots of sitting around doing nothing. And you’re punching instead of kneading. You can also make big sub buns using this recipe. Don’t be too generous on bun sizing if you’re not aiming for big buns, these things puff up pretty big in the oven.

Two Hour Buns

3 cups warm water
6 tbsp oil
2 tbsp yeast
4 tbsp sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
8 cups of flour or enough to make a workable dough (I often have to add more after mixing it in if my dough is too sticky)

In a large bowl add warm water, oil, sugar, yeast, and eggs. Mix.
Add flour and salt. Blend well and then let rise for 15 minutes. Punch down, and let rise again for 15 minutes. Punch down and form into buns. Place on cookie sheets and let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes. Makes 4-5 dozen buns. This dough requires no kneading.

014Punching down the dough 016 Licking… this kid always licks EVERYTHING!017 Getting in trouble for trying to lick the dough.018 Failing miserably at pretending to be remorseful over licking.054 Testing out punching the dough the second time.059 Happily squishing the bread.064 smackitty smackitty… she was born for this!065oh how lovely, nicely squishing the dough. She had so much fun with this!069 Pretty happy, she made a snowman out of dough and I baked it without doing the final rise because she is so impatient.071 Proud of her snowman!072 Tentatively eating it085 Relaxing happily and eating her snowman.100

This girl’s eyes just keep getting cooler. They’re kind of a teal these days. Very cool. As to the buns, I didn’t take any pictures of the finished buns, but they turn out very fluffy and delicious, and like I said, very easy to make! Great for a nice Sunday afternoon.

A joke from back in grade five….
